GARANT HB71 turning grade: extremely aggressive in stainless steels.
GARANT ISO-M grade family for ISO turning of stainless steels
Robust, sharp, one of a kind! The GARANT turning grades from the HB71 series stand out in comparative tests for stainless steel machining. The multilayer coating of the GARANT indexable inserts enables optimum cutting data and maximum reliability. We offer an unrivalled range of substrates and conditions, making the HB71 series a true all-rounder.

Aggressive, strong and assertive
- Dominant and uncompromising – like a shark in open waters
- Maximum machining performance due to aggressive material removal
Robust and durable
- Protective layer as armour: High wear resistance and long service life
- Reliable and stable even under difficult conditions (e.g. with heavily interrupted cuts)
Precision in perfection
- Clear lines – like the perfect contours of a shark
- Precise shape for maximum dimensional accuracy, precision and control
Dynamism, efficiency and speed
- Customised chip breakers for high feed rates and speeds
- Highest productivity without any loss of quality

The HB71 grade family is optimally designed for machining stainless steels.
With precise coating concepts – from classic CVD coatings with TiCN and Al₂O₃ to innovative AlTiSiN PVD coatings – the HB71 series covers the entire range of applications.
From continuous cuts with high heat and wear resistance (HB7120-1) to universal applications with improved edge toughness (HB7130-2) to heavily interrupted cutting conditions where maximum toughness and process reliability are required (HB7140-2). The substrate and coating properties guarantee maximum reliability – even under difficult conditions.

GARANT HB7120-1
- For consistent cutting conditions
- For high productivity requirements
- For stable machining conditions
- Optimised heat and wear resistance

GARANT HB7130-2
- For continuous cutting conditions and slight interruptions in cutting (scaling, uneven material,
saw cuts) - For moderate/high cutting speeds
- The new first choice for turning stainless steels

GARANT HB7140-2
- For heavily interrupted cutting conditions
- For unstable machining conditions
- For low/slight cutting speeds

PVD coating offers impressive process reliability – even with unstable component conditions and severely interrupted cutting conditions. In addition to machining conventional stainless steels, it also enables efficient machining of difficult-to-cut duplex steels, delivering excellent and reproducible results.

VM chip breaker for machining stainless steels
Stainless steels and heat-resistant materials place the highest demands on tools and the machining process. The VM chip breaker was developed specifically for these materials. With a thermally optimised geometry, excellent chip control and reduced cutting pressure, it enables precise machining results. The chip breaker ensures targeted chip deformation, even with poor heat dissipation – this prevents built-up edges and protects the cutting edge.

VM chip breaker
- Universal chip breaker for medium machining
- Exceptional chip control across a wide range of applications.
- Stable 7° chamfer with a length of 0.25 mm
- 25° rake angle

Advantages:
- Reliable chip breaking even with tough, long-chipping materials
- Reduced built-up edge formation thanks to optimised chip control
- Longer service life thanks to reduced heat generation
- Suitable for use with VA steels, duplex and austenitic alloys
